The objectives of this program is to provide the student with knowledge in the following areas

1. Anatomy and functions of the eye in detail

2. Recording  clinical data for interpretation by the ophthalmologist 

3. Common diseases of each structure of the eye

4. Basic skills in caring for patients and their environment

5. Role and responsibilities of the ophthalmic assistant  as team members in patient care

6. Communications skills for effective human relations

7. Behavior in dealing with patients, doctors and colleagues

8. Patient instruction and education

9. Basic public health concepts
