Abstract

Background: Several haemostatic abnormalities (hypercoagulable and hypocoagulable) states have been fully described in hyperthyroidism patients. The current study aimed to measure and assessment of the fibrinogen levels in Hyperthyroidism patient.

Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive case-control study, conducted in January 2016 at Radiation and Isotopes center Khartoum, Khartoum, Sudan. A total of 80 participants were selected for this study, among them 40 known diagnosed Hyperthyroidism patients designated as patient group; their mean age is 42 years. Other 40 participants were volunteer normal healthy group designated ascontrol group; their age matched with patient group. Venous blood sampleswere collected fromboth patients and healthy control group. Blood samples was collected in a container containing 200 μl of 3.2% sodium citrate as anticoagulant, the platelet poor plasma was prepared by centrifuged at 2000 rpm for 15 minutes. Data was collected by structured interview and questionnaire then analyzed by using a computer program statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 17.

Results: the present study showed that the fibrinogen levels were significantly elevated in hyperthyroidism patients compared with that normal control group (Mean ±SD 4.3±0.72g/L, with p value 0.00).

Conclusion: This study has shown that the hypercoagulability was present in Sudanese patients with Hyperthyroidism.
