Al-Neelain Universiy Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Tariq Abbas El Bakhit‎‎ represented ‎ the University ‎in the meetings of The African Council for Distance Education (ACDE) ‎which held in Khartoum 28th – 29th September, 2016, and organized by the Open University of Sudan. The meeting had witnessed the participation of a number of representatives of different universities of the African Union countries. Professor Tariq Abbas El Bakhit mentioned that the ACDE meeting is intended to bring together academics, researchers, administrators, and managers to discuss and share ‎their experiences and research findings on the impact of open distance learning ODL across Africa.‎ He added that Al-Neelain Universiy is the only Sudanese university, in addition to the Open University of Sudan, participating in this council as a representative of universities of North Africa region.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor ‎also stated that the meeting discussed the challenges the Distance Education ‎faces, the fields of collaboration between African universities, and the joint educational programs. The meeting also recommended to establish a scientific research centre specializes in distance education.

It is worth mentioning that The African Council for Distance Education (ACDE) is a continental educational organization comprising African universities and other higher education institutions, which are committed to expanding access to quality education and training through open and distance learning.
